Aiko Morita - In The Aquarium
Nordic Trax welcome another exciting new talent to the label: Japanese producer Aiko Morita arrives with In The Aquarium EP – featuring a remix by Philadelphia legend Pete Moss. The rising star has made quite an impression after only a few years in the studio, with releases & remixes on Nite Grooves, King Street Sounds and Hideo Kobiyashi's Fuente Music among others.
Aiko Morita is an artist on a mission. Her basic production concept – reflected in this EP – is what she describes as "unconscious rhythm", based on her love & appreciation of the deeper elements of the genre. This sound, as she explains: "is a delicate deployment, which encompasses uplifting spirituality, original renditions -- and all in an atmospheric, non-aggressive space." All three original productions on this EP have a deep and meditative quality reflective of her commitment to this aesthetic.
Aiko started her music career as a dj in her hometown of Osaka in 2004. After moving to Tokyo in 2011 Aiko joined "EUREKA!" collective as a resident performer & organizer. She was actively involved in many events held at some of the most influential clubs in Tokyo, including WOMB, AIR and Eleven. In 2014 she moved her base to San Francisco where she began producing music.
In 2016 she relocated to New York and since then has released music on King Street, Nite Grooves, Fuente Music, Hotbox Music, Hot Digits Music, Chikyu-u Records and Childsplay. Notably she remixed Japanese legend Hideo Kobiyashi's latest single, as well as well as previous standout remixes of a classic from Chris Brann’s (Wamdue Kids) Ananda Project.
Fans of the label will no doubt be familiar with Pete Moss. The East Coast deep house don has been producing quality underground music for over 2 decades, with releases on Ovum, Dessous, Alola, Recline, Kwench, Worship and of course a couple of excellent eps on Nordic Trax. Moving between deep and tech house his remix drives the title track in an exciting direction aimed squarely at discerning dancefloors.
