> MUZIK Magazine UK, Nov 00
Excellent compilation of techno-influenced deep house culled from the increasingly happening Canadian scene. Highlights include tracks by FSP and Deja Vu, Sunkissed's 'Embrace', DJ Delerious' low-slung bass groover 'Way Out' and Ben Nevile's beautifully dreamy 'Designer Drugs'. Top music, good value. **** (DM)

> XLR8R Magazine SF, #45
Nordic Trax's follow-up to their 1999 release Necessary Pieces comes packed with more Canadian patirotism, featuiring deep tech-house tracks by attention-worthy producers. The CD-mixed by Tyler 'T-Bone' Stadius uncovers previously unreleased sounds from the country's most forward-thinking scene-builders. Necessary Pieces 2 is a smooth, mood-swingy collection filled with shadowy floor-movers; encompassing all things dubby, tech-oriented and groovesome, it spotlights the skills of house revolutionaries Gavin Froome, Peter Hecher, Deja Vu and other like minds. A smooth, subtly aggressive mix promises to turn more critical attenton towards our neighbors to the north. Nordic Trax wants more respect, and this release seals the deal. (MP)

Mixed and compiled by Tyler 'T-Bone' Stadius, this twelve track CD shows off what Nordic Trax have been doing so quietly for so long. Right from the likes of Ben Neville 'Designer Drugs' with it's spaced out moods and direct bassline leader you get the sense of well built tunes that can please and tease at will. Gavin Froome 'Skunks' adds another edge to this sound with his high stepping percussion filled spiralling track that whips up your heals and slides a carpet of deep bulbous beat underneath. Peter Hecher with 'Electric' lifts the tempo again adding an electronic current to the heart of the track, pacey direct dance music with a mean face and a magical bass hook. The more it progresses the hard the sound gets culminating in Mike Shannon and 'Deep Blue' a hard beating bassline stomper with industrial clanks filtered in the backroom, it's hard and bold, but the journey here never loses you building it all up in class fashion. 9/10

> Vancouver Province 9/26/00
Another winning release from Vancouver's burgeoning electronic music scene. File it alongside Gavin Froome's 'Mobile Villager' and Upstairs Recordings debut compilation. Big props to Nordic Trax for not releasing an album of relentlessly bouncy house music that dominates the local dance scene. Stretching out to include a variety of textures and moods, from 'Designer Drugs,' Ben Nevile's minimalist exercise in subdued, bubbling beats, to Calgarian Peter Hecher's pulsing, bass-driven club floor number 'Electric,' all 12 tunes on this compilation benefit from a seamless mix by the talented Tyler 'T-Bone' Stadius. The release party for the CD is at Sonar this Saturday. (Stuart Derdeyn)
