Winnipeg producer/deejay Joe Silva has releases on Red Melon, Stickman and Viva. Beginning in 1987 with his "Bite the Bullet EP" on Contagious Records, Silva has released a variety of tracks in a variety of styles. He has honed his production style into a deep techno-influenced house all his own and recently started the label Purespace. Silva holds a Saturday night residency at Lustre in Winnipeg where he regularly plays with house music heroes from Canada and abroad. Joe's original mix bumps along with crisp drums & subtle stabs before a slinky hook and vocal drop. The strong track elements are given the remix treatment by previous Nordic Trax conspirators JT Donaldson (NT012) of Los Angeles and Jon Delerious (NT019) of Calgary. JT's mix is, in a word, dirty! Joe's chords get the workout as JT creates some fabulous builds over intricate drums leaving you feeling that less is indeed more. Calgary producer/deejay Jon Delerious takes 'The One' peaktime with some West Coast percussion and that trademark production that had Jon's NT debut earlier this year on playlists from George T, Mr. C and Ali B among others. ______________________________________________________ The quality reviews continue to roll in for Gavin Froome's latest full-length 'Post+Beam', out now on CD and double-vinyl NT022CD/2LP. The Montreal Electronic Groove festival hosted Nordic Trax for two nights, including a memorable double-bill with Rollercone (Sirkus, UK/SUI) on Halloween. Big up to the Milk crew for hosting an excellent party in Toronto this past Saturday night; residents Felix & Gani tore it up. Last but not least the Mercury Lounge in Ottawa must get a special shout out for giving birth to not one, but two, one-of-a-kind incidents this past Thursday. Firstly, as Mr. Froome concluded his live set, the very tall (yet understated) electronic artist rose into the 'I Am A Golden God' pose and was greeted with a raucous round of applause and cheers. Shortly thereafter Luke resumed his deejay set and was immediately aware of a bizarre odour. Had last night's dinner gotten the best of Gavin? A glance to the right revealed the horrible truth: the monitor speaker was actually on fire. By this time Froome was a babbling idiot, and Luke found himself forced to blow the fire out to save the night. Thankfully supplies of hot air are fully stocked at Nordic Trax HQ.
