| 'Drifting
Into View' completes Morgan's transformation from a student of house music
to one of it's most exciting young producers. The album deftly showcases
Morgan's complete control of his studio. Hanging over his trademark beats
are evolving layers of lush atmospherics which project a steady pulsing
flow that pulls the listener deeper into the album. Standout cuts include
a collaboration with Nettwerk recording artist and SuperJane member Colette
on leadoff single, "All I Need" and "What I've Seen" a melancholic mid-tempo
track which hypnotizes with it's simplistic melody. Most significantly Morgan
has created an album where track interlock completing a puzzle, in the end
developing a translucent home listening experience which is destined to
leave a long lasting impression. 1. Intro (Circadas) 2. In Your Soul 3. All I Need featuring Colette 4. Horizon 5. Heartbeat 6. Where You Belong 7. Cosmos 8. Seabass 9. Floater 10. What I've Seen 11. All I Need (radio edit) all tracks written & produced by Morgan Page, except 'All I Need' written by Page/Marino tracks 3 & 12 featuring Colette on vocals, guitar by Gavin Froome all songs published by Nordic Trax Publishing (Socan) C 2002 Nordic Trax -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Famed for releases on Fiji, Chalant and Nordic Trax, Morgan Page makes intricate, warm and extremely sexy tech-house a la German tech giants Timewriter and Terry lee Brown Jr. Though relatively new to the production game, Page blends minimal, compressed beats, ambient, textured chords and dubby basslines with the confidence of a seasoned pro. "All I Need" drips with the soul of Colette's vocals, and fellow NT labelmate Gavin Froome even whips out his guitar for the occasion, while ÎHorizon' is a midtempo future breakbeat jam of the highest order. Currently in his junior year at college, this rising Boston-based producer seems to have plenty more in store. Luke Magnusson, XLR8R Magazine -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Boston's Morgan Page first got hooked on taut, sinewy, late night body music after a stint as an intern at Plastic City NYC, home of all things deep and beautiful. After a slew of EPs for Fiji and Nordic Trax and remixes for the likes of Terry Lee Brown Jnr and Nigel Hayes, here comes his debut opus. The straight-up deep house numbers are supertight, cuts like 'Seabass', 'In Your Soul' and 'Where You Belong' pushing dark and lean grooves that bob along on waves of bass and emotion. But other tracks - 'Horizon', 'Hearbeat', 'Cosmos' - move in a more nebulous ether, where beats tumble out of the darkness, strings caress like the early morning chill and 3am remains eternal. As such, Page's music owes as much to jazz, hip hop or even folk as it does the legacy of Chicago or Detroit. A sonically-absorbing audio immersion experience. Score five out of seven Kieran Wyatt, 7 Magazine -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A relative newcomer to the tech-house scene, Boston's Morgan Page has been causing a stir lately. Drifting Into View is his first full-length album, and it's an impressive set of mellow, organic, melodic techno. His rhythm programming is fluid, sounds natural and is complemented beautifully by gentle, airy chords and textures. Accessible, yet not dumbed down for mass consumption, Drifting Into View has been constructed by Page for across-the-board appeal, neatly combining atmospheric downtempo, bouncy minimal techno and smooth, streamlined house grooves into a cohesive artistic statement. NNNN Benjamin Boles, NOW (TORONTO) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After chalking up a number of EP releases, and remixes for some of the biggest names, Morgan finally unleashes his debut LP. "Drifting Into View," focuses on lush soundscapes, melodic nuances and a steady deep vibe, which is prevalent throughout. However this is not just a standard House long player, but instead, a journey through a number of faster and slower paced cuts. Many of these are outstanding slices of beautiful melodious deep musicianship, while a couple at least, feel like padding, and the inclusion of a "Radio Edit" of "All I Need" seems unnecessary. "All I Need" featuring the vocals of Colette, shows Morgan can produce a wonderful vocal track, with its cleanly cut percussion, divine keys, a golden acoustic guitar and loving vocals. "Horizon" slows things down, as live twiddled percussion meanders over an obese break, mistry-eyed keys, a soft bass and flared keys. "Where You Belong" is the outstanding House instrumental, where haunting keys, a prickly synth, a succulent bass and a twinkling piano have their say. "What I've Seen" opts for mid-tempo, as clear polished digital keys, a graceful string-synth duet and low-down bass chill all like an ice-cool beer on a warm summer's day. An impressive debut, for someone who's set for even greater things in the future. Jon Freer, pitchadjust.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
