Tom Churchill

A reputation as a consistent supplier of quality deep house, techno & leftfield action, Mr. Churchill is from Cardiff, Wales and represents (the UK) well with the first release of 2002 for NT. Tom released a much-caned double-pack on DiY, and is equally known for his own labels Headspace & Emoticon, as for his deejaying at London's Raya events, The Big Chill and current Radius residency in Cardiff.

Four tracks straight to the soul in this delightful package from Tom, the title track 'Fourplay' kicks things off and gets straight to the point. Tight percussion moves the deep chords over a hooky bassline which sets the standard for the ep. Tom's love of Detroit shines through as the string builds carry this one to the proverbial 'next level'. Next up is 'One Eleven' with Tom firmly in Room 2; deep jazzy beats in the tradition of early Nordic Trax. A very cinematic affair, One Eleven is guided along by some smouldering Rhodes; but it is the techy chords that really elevate this track above mere acid jazz --- the chase is on. 'Unsettled' begins side two with lush chords and a nostalgic feel to the track. Tom's musicality really comes through as an exquisite breakdown combines broken-beat with housey chord stabs, as appropriate in the chill room as the main floor at a mature club. 'Suspended' closes things out in dub-house mode.
Some more very strong drum programming, this one sits easily in the mix and hints once more at Tom's love for Motor city.
